The landscape of the central Elbe Cycle Route section is characterized by the "Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve" is a part of the national biosphere reserve "Elbe River Landscape". This UNESCO-protected area encompasses some 400 km of the Elbe regions of Saxony-Anhalt through Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern up to Schleswig-Holstein.
The protected Elbe meadows pass through the landscape of the Saxon capital of Dresden  like a green belt. Beneath the Elb metropolis, your tour is accompanied by vineyards, through the towns of Radebeul, Coswig, Meißen and the Saxon Elbe vine villages; to the south of Dresden the route takes you through the fascinating rocky landscape of the national park Sächsische Schweiz.
