Hanseatic cities

The German North Sea coast is purled with Hanseatic cities, a league of cities that controlled maritime trade between the 13th and 17th centuries in northern Europe and most particular in the Baltic Sea.. Lübeck, Wismar, Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald  were members of this League; which can still be seen today by the representative merchant houses from this era.
