Greener Burg Kreiensen

The castle above Greene was built in 1308, 181 meters above sea level. During the course of time, it endured major damage and was reconstructed, until it was abandoned in 1704. During the period from 1953 to 1961, the castle was used as a religious site for German prisoners of war. Today only ruins remain of what was once a palace-like structure. The 25-meter high tower is virtually unharmed and serves as a lookout tower. Here you have a wonderful view of the Leine Mountains. In addition, the castle is also frequently used as a starting point for hikers on their way into the bordering forests.
