Thuringian Town Chain

The cycle trail Thuringian Town Chain connects seven of the most beautiful towns in Thuringia as well as charming rural areas in the region as well. This cycle trail is particularly suitable for culture enthusiast and touring cyclists

As part of the D-Route 4, it is connected to the nationwide long-distance cycle network and connects Altenburg in the east of the free state of Thuringia with the Wartburg city Eisenach. Along some 225 km, there are several opportunities to stop and see the beauty of Thuringia, boasting historic city centers, famous sites and cultural highlights.

All cities along the cycle route – Altenburg, Gera, Jena, Weimar, Erfurt, Gotha, Eisenach – are connected to the German Railway network of Deutsche Bahn. This way all sections of the cycle route can be travels and easily combined. The cycle path Thuringian Town Chain is directly connected to a number of other cycle routes with which charming tourist regions of Thuringia can be discovered, e.g. the Rennteig cycle path, D-Route 11 (Saale cycle path), Ilmtal cycle path.
