Gera

The second largest town of Thuringia, embedded in the valley of the White Magpie (Weiße Elster) together with Ronneburg hosted the Bundesgartenschau 2007. A green city that was once a Prussian residence with its city woods, the riverside pastures and the many parks. Gera has many sites to offer: the traditional art-deco theater, the municipal art collection in the orangery, the museal place of birth of the city's most famous artist's son – the painter Otto Dix, four museums, lovingly restored manors, many representative townhouses and the historic labyrinth of underground passages. Connection to: Elster Cycle Path.
