Middle Rhine

The river landscape between Koblenz and Bingen, the "romantic Rhine" was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. The river is interrupted by the Rhenish Slate Mountains and adorned with numerous castles and palaces on both sides. The eastern slope is covered in vineyards and the small towns along both sides of the river are popular tourist destinations.
