Overview of the the German Cycle Network

Routine and recreational cyclists benefit from standardized directions of the very highest quality. All D-routes can already be used today as they trail existing long-distance paths. The consolidation of a national route network is progressing. With the initiative of the Federal government and five Federal States, D-Route 3 (European Bicycle Route R1) is being further developed as a model route for all other D-routes.

D-routes 1 to 6 run from west to east, D-routes 7 to 12 from north to south, connecting exiting long distance bike paths. What originally started as the "D-Network", the German Cycle Network is now an inherent element of the measures of the National Bicycle Traffic Plan 2002 to 2012 of the German Federal Government With the D-Network, the German Federal Government as well as the Federal States are committed to establishing overarching standards as well as a high degree of quality biking tourism.
